Namaste Tower

The rising cultural and economic significance of the great India inspired Dubai-based architectural studio WS Atkins to design an iconic tower that symbolizes the long tradition and rich architecture of India – represented by the Namaste Tower.

Featuring a unique design concept of two palms held together in the well-known traditional yoga pose that comes along with the greeting “Namaste,” the Namaste Tower is the newest addition for the W hotel brand set to be located in the city of Mumbai, India.

Designed by Atkins Design Studio, the 300-meter high, 62-story tower features two opposing sides mimicking sails or wings, all the while evoking the two pressed palms that inspired its namesake. Apart from aesthetics, the huge canopies attached to the tower also serve as thermal collectors, expected to offer 12% of the required energy to provide hot water for the hotel.

Its building skin of fritted glazing feature traditional Indian patterns that not only create a sense of depth and transparency to the building but also match the tower’s gala wedding space meant for Indian Mehndi ceremonies.

Entrance is imposed through a striking awning that spreads out through the scene where the tower embraces the ground. Whereas, its commercial spaces such as the hotel and retail areas wrap above and through a huge atrium space with a quadrupled height.

Emphasis on internal gardens that brings the landscape into the interiors guided the hotel’s circulation areas that were as spectacular as the rooms themselves. Each corridor is then concluded with an open space that creates a framed and dramatic view of the city.

Capping the tower is the Sky Restaurant and Bar, surrounded by breathtaking views of Mumbai.
